Vastu Dosh Remedies
If a house cannot be constructed according to Vastu principles due to practical limitations or if certain Vastu defects (Vastu Dosh) remain, traditional Vastu Shastra believes they may create an imbalance in the flow of positive energy. According to these beliefs, such imbalances may contribute to challenges related to reputation, family relationships, financial stability, legal matters, or married life.
Vastu Shastra suggests several traditional remedies to help reduce the effects of these defects. Below are some commonly recommended Vastu remedies for different directions.
East Direction Vastu Dosh Remedies
The East direction is associated with growth, health, family harmony, and social recognition. According to Vastu, keeping this direction open and free from major defects is considered beneficial.
Traditional remedies include:
Donate wheat, jaggery, a red cloth, and a copper vessel to a Brahmin. Install a properly energized Surya Yantra in the East. Offer water to the Sun (Surya Dev) every morning from a copper vessel while chanting the Gayatri Mantra seven times. Mix red sandalwood, kumkum (roli), jaggery, and a red flower in the water before offering it. North Direction Vastu Dosh Remedies
The North direction is associated with wealth and career opportunities.
Traditional remedies include:
Paint the northern walls in light green shades. Write the Sanskrit letter "अ" on a plain white paper and place it in the North. Install a Lakshmi Yantra and Kuber Yantra after proper Vedic rituals. South Direction Vastu Dosh Remedies
The South direction is connected with strength, stability, and protection.
Traditional remedies include:
Install a full-length mirror opposite the main entrance so that anyone entering the house is reflected in it. Place an image or idol of Lord Hanuman in a blessing posture opposite the main entrance. Install a Panchdhatu (five-metal) pyramid above the main entrance to help balance the energy. West Direction Vastu Dosh Remedies
The West direction is traditionally associated with Lord Varuna.
Traditional remedies include:
Install a Varuna Yantra in the western part of the house. Place a Shani Yantra in the West. Recite the Shani Stotra regularly. Donate black gram (urad dal) and mustard oil on Saturdays. Observe a Saturday fast if appropriate. Recite the Hanuman Chalisa and Bajrang Baan. North-East (Ishan) Direction Vastu Dosh Remedies
The North-East is considered one of the most sacred directions in Vastu Shastra.
Traditional remedies include:
If the North-East corner is missing or cut, place a large mirror on the affected wall to visually extend the space. Install an image or idol of Lord Brihaspati (Jupiter), Lord Brahma, or a revered saint. If the kitchen is in the North-East, place the cooking stove in the South-East corner of the kitchen and keep a clean vessel filled with water in the North-East corner. If a toilet is located in the North-East, place a large mirror on the outer wall. Some traditional practices also recommend placing the image of a lion on the exterior wall. South-West (Nairitya) Direction Vastu Dosh Remedies
The South-West direction represents stability and ancestral energy.
Traditional remedies include:
Install a properly energized Rahu Yantra. Perform Shraddha rituals during Pitru Paksha or on Amavasya to honor ancestors. Install a Vastu Yantra after proper rituals. Perform Rudrabhishek or milk abhishek of Lord Shiva. Offer a pair of serpent idols (Naga-Nagini) made of bronze, silver, or gold to Lord Shiva and place them in the South-West direction. South-East (Agneya) Direction Vastu Dosh Remedies
The South-East is governed by the Fire element.
Traditional remedies include:
If the South-East corner is extended, reshape it into a square or rectangular layout where possible. Fill any pits or depressions in this area with soil. Keep the South-East slightly higher than the North-East but lower than the South-West. Light a red lamp or red-colored bulb in this direction for some time every day. Place an image of Agni Dev (Fire God) or an idol of Lord Ganesha in this direction. North-West (Vayavya) Direction Vastu Dosh Remedies
The North-West direction is associated with movement, communication, and relationships.
Traditional remedies include:
Install an idol of Sankat Mochan Hanuman. Keep a vase filled with fresh flowers in this room. Perform Abhishek of the Shiva Lingam daily using Ganga water mixed with raw milk while chanting Shiva mantras. Install energized Maruti Yantra and Chandra Yantra after proper Vedic rituals. Final Note
The remedies mentioned above are based on the traditional beliefs and practices of Vastu Shastra. Their effectiveness is rooted in cultural and spiritual traditions rather than scientific evidence. If your home has significant structural Vastu concerns, it is advisable to consult an experienced Vastu expert who can recommend personalized remedies based on your property's layout and your specific requirements.
