Raksha Bandhan is on August 29 this year. But this time, you may have to wait a bit longer to celebrate this festival due to Bhadra muhurat which is considered inauspicious. This muhurat will be there till 1:50 pm on August 29 and the rituals of Rakhi should be avoided during this period.
What is Bhadra?
According to ancient scriptures, Bhadra is related to Sun and Saturn; she is Lord Surya’s daughter and Saturn’s sister. Hence, just like Saturn, she is also cruel by disposition. Bhadra, also called as ‘Vishti Karana’ is a part of Panchang (Hindu calendar). Any auspicious ceremony is prohibited during Bhadra. This time on Raksha Bandhan, Bhadra is till 1:50 in the afternoon. So, as per astrologers, this time shouldn’t be utilised for performing the rituals of Rakhi. The best time for Rakhi is from 1:50 in the afternoon till 4:30. Bhadra begins in the morning at 10:15 am and ends by 1:50 pm.
