The Magician

The Magician tarot card is the first card of the Major Arcana. It is ruled by the planet Mercury and the element Air. Mercury is the planet of intellect and communication and The Magician knows how to use his intelligence and tap into his inner abilities to make sense of his life himself. He can put his ideas and talents to good use and manifest the outcome. While The Fool took the leap of faith, The Magician uses his strong will and intuition to manipulate and succeed in his endeavours.

Description

In the Rider Waite deck, The Magician Tarot has a lot of yellow, red and white colours in the card. Yellow colour is all about emotions, red is about power and strength while white represents spirituality. The card shows a male standing before an altar with one hand raised, holding a wand and the other hand pointing downward. The first thing one notices about the figure is the symbol of infinity just above his head. Interestingly, all the four suits in a tarot deck are placed before him on the altar. He is standing in a bed of flowers, the greenery represents the earth while the red roses and white lilies represent love and intellect.

Meaning

The Magician wants you to believe in yourself….that you have the power to create magic in your life….that you can manifest anything. He is like a conjuror who asks you what thought you would like to be planted in your mind so that you can decide on a course of action and focus your attention in manifesting what you want. The fact that the four suits, earth, water, air and fire, are in his control, and the symbol of infinity is on his head, it denotes that he has infinite possibilities of creating anything with his will.
