Shiv Linga is an iconic representation of the Hindu deity, Lord Shiva. Shiv Linga is bathed with milk, curd, honey, ghee, and water. Then the idol is worshiped with the leaves of Bel tree, betel leaves, flowers and fruits like Datura and Jujube. After which the Shiv Linga is coated with sandal and then worshiped with incense sticks and ghee lamps. The 'Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra' is chanted on this auspicious Pooja ceremonies to seek blessings of the lord. A night vigil spent worshiping Lord Shiva and chanting slokas and mantras would be an ideal way of culminating Shivratri Pooja.
Food and Fasting:
Many devotees keep fast on this day till midnight and start their day with the worship of Lord Shiva. Post rituals the other crucial thing is the procedure of fasting where you can have saatvik food like sabudana khichdi, bhang, thandai for dinner. Wearing a rudraksha mala is considered to be very auspicious as rudraksha beads are supposed to have been originated from the tears of Lord Shiva.
