शतनाम प्रवक्ष्यामि श्रृणुष्व कमलानने।
यस्य प्रसादमात्रेण दुर्गा प्रीता भवेत् सती॥1॥

Meaning: Ishvara (Lord Shiva) says: “O Goddess with a face as beautiful as a lotus! I shall tell you the 108 names of Goddess Durga. Merely by remembering these names with faith, Mother Durga is pleased.”

ॐ सती साध्वी भवप्रीता भवानी भवमोचनी।
आर्या दुर्गा जया चाद्या त्रिनेत्रा शूलधारिणी॥2॥

Meaning: The Mother is Sati; Sadhvi (the virtuous one); Bhavani, beloved of Lord Shiva; Bhavamochani, who frees us from the bonds of worldly existence; the noble Arya; Durga; Jaya, who grants victory; Adya, the primordial Shakti; the three-eyed one; and the bearer of the trident.

पिनाकधारिणी चित्रा चण्डघण्टा महातपाः।
मनो बुद्धिरहंकारा चित्तरूपा चिता चितिः॥3॥

Meaning: The Mother bears the Pinaka bow. She is Chitra, of wondrous form; Chandaghanta; and the one who performs great austerities. She also exists as the mind, the intellect, the ego and consciousness, and she is the very form of awareness and knowledge.

सर्वमन्त्रमयी सत्ता सत्यानन्दस्वरूपिणी।
अनन्ता भाविनी भाव्या भव्याभव्या सदागतिः॥4॥

Meaning: The Goddess is the power present in all mantras and the supreme reality. Her nature is truth and bliss. She is infinite, she knows everyone’s thoughts, she is worthy of meditation, she is auspicious, and she always leads one on the right path.

शाम्भवी देवमाता च चिन्ता रत्नप्रिया सदा।
सर्वविद्या दक्षकन्या दक्षयज्ञविनाशिनी॥5॥
Shambhavi Devamata Cha Chinta Ratnapriya Sada |
Sarvavidya Dakshakanya Daksha-Yajna-Vinashini || 5 ||
Meaning: The Mother is Shambhavi, the power of Shambhu (Shiva); the mother of all the gods; and the one who removes the worries of her devotees. She is fond of jewels. She is the embodiment of all forms of knowledge, the daughter of Daksha, and the one who destroyed Daksha’s sacrifice.

अपर्णानेकवर्णा च पाटला पाटलावती।
पट्टाम्बरपरीधाना कलमञ्जीररञ्जिनी॥6॥

Meaning: The Mother is called Aparna and appears in many colours. Her form has a reddish glow. She wears silken garments and delights in the sweet sound of ankle bells.

अमेयविक्रमा क्रूरा सुन्दरी सुरसुन्दरी।
वनदुर्गा च मातङ्गी मतङ्गमुनिपूजिता॥7॥

Vanadurga Cha Matangi Matanga-Muni-Pujita || 7 ||
Meaning: The Goddess’s power and valour are boundless. She is terrifying to the wicked but beautiful and enchanting to her devotees. She is also worshipped as Vanadurga and Matangi, and the sage Matanga worshipped her.

ब्राह्मी माहेश्वरी चैन्द्री कौमारी वैष्णवी तथा।
चामुण्डा चैव वाराही लक्ष्मीश्च पुरुषाकृतिः॥8॥
Brahmi Maheshvari Chaindri Kaumari Vaishnavi Tatha |
Chamunda Chaiva Varahi Lakshmishcha Purushakritih || 8 ||
Meaning: The Mother exists as Brahmi, Maheshvari, Indrani, Kaumari and Vaishnavi. She is also worshipped as Chamunda, Varahi and Lakshmi, and when needed she can even take a male form.

विमलोत्कर्षिणी ज्ञाना क्रिया नित्या च बुद्धिदा।
बहुला बहुलप्रेमा सर्ववाहनवाहना॥9॥

Bahula Bahulaprema Sarva-Vahana-Vahana || 9 ||
Meaning: The Goddess is pure in form, the giver of progress, and the power of knowledge and action. She is eternal and the giver of wisdom. She appears in many forms, loves her devotees deeply, and rides upon every kind of vehicle.

निशुम्भशुम्भहननी महिषासुरमर्दिनी।
मधुकैटभहन्त्री च चण्डमुण्डविनाशिनी॥10॥
Nishumbha-Shumbha-Hanani Mahishasura-Mardini |
Madhu-Kaitabha-Hantri Cha Chanda-Munda-Vinashini || 10 ||
Meaning: The Mother slew Shumbha and Nishumbha. She is the destroyer of Mahishasura. She killed the demons named Madhu and Kaitabha and also destroyed Chanda and Munda.

सर्वासुरविनाशा च सर्वदानवघातिनी।
सर्वशास्त्रमयी सत्या सर्वास्त्रधारिणी तथा॥11॥

Meaning: The Goddess destroys all asuras and danavas (demons). She holds the knowledge of all the scriptures within herself, she is truth itself, and she bears every kind of weapon.

अनेकशस्त्रहस्ता च अनेकास्त्रस्य धारिणी।
कुमारी चैककन्या च कैशोरी युवती यतिः॥12॥
Aneka-Shastra-Hasta Cha Anekastrasya Dharini |
Kumari Chaikakanya Cha Kaishori Yuvati Yatih || 12 ||
Meaning: The Mother holds different weapons in her many hands and carries many missiles. She is also worshipped as Kumari, the only daughter, Kishori (the young girl), Yuvati (the young woman) and Tapasvini (the ascetic).

अप्रौढा चैव प्रौढा च वृद्धमाता बलप्रदा।
महोदरी मुक्तकेशी घोररूपा महाबला॥13॥

Mahodari Muktakeshi Ghorarupa Mahabala || 13 ||
Meaning: The Goddess is present in every form, from a young girl to a mature woman and an aged mother. She is the giver of strength. Her belly is vast, her hair is loose, one of her forms is fierce, and she has immense power.

अग्निज्वाला रौद्रमुखी कालरात्रिस्तपस्विनी।
नारायणी भद्रकाली विष्णुमाया जलोदरी॥14॥

Narayani Bhadrakali Vishnumaya Jalodari || 14 ||
Meaning: The Mother is radiant like the flame of fire. She has a fierce face and, as Kalaratri, she destroys the wicked. She is Tapasvini, Narayani, Bhadrakali and Vishnumaya. Her form is immensely powerful and all-pervading.
Verse 15
शिवदूती कराली च अनन्ता परमेश्वरी।
कात्यायनी च सावित्री प्रत्यक्षा ब्रह्मवादिनी॥15॥

Katyayani Cha Savitri Pratyaksha Brahmavadini || 15 ||
Meaning: The Goddess is Shivaduti and Karali, of terrifying form. She is infinite and the Supreme Goddess (Parameshvari). She is also worshipped as Katyayani and Savitri, and she is the manifest power who teaches the knowledge of Brahman.
Verse 16
य इदं प्रपठेन्नित्यं दुर्गानामशताष्टकम्।
नासाध्यं विद्यते देवि त्रिषु लोकेषु पार्वति॥16॥
Ya Idam Prapathen Nityam Durga-Nama-Shatashtakam |
Nasadhyam Vidyate Devi Trishu Lokeshu Parvati || 16 ||
Meaning: O Parvati! Nothing in the three worlds remains impossible for the person who recites these 108 names of Durga with faith every day.
Verse 17
धनं धान्यं सुतं जायां हयं हस्तिनमेव च।
चतुर्वर्गं तथा चान्ते लभेन्मुक्तिं च शाश्वतीम्॥17॥
Dhanam Dhanyam Sutam Jayam Hayam Hastinameva Cha |
Chaturvargam Tatha Chante Labhenmuktim Cha Shashvatim || 17 ||
Meaning: One who recites this stotra gains prosperity such as wealth, grain, children, a spouse, horses and elephants. In the end, along with the four goals of life — dharma, artha, kama and moksha — he also attains eternal liberation.

कुमारीं पूजयित्वा तु ध्यात्वा देवीं सुरेश्वरीम्।
पूजयेत् परया भक्त्या पठेन्नामशताष्टकम्॥18॥
Kumarim Pujayitva Tu Dhyatva Devim Sureshvarim |
Pujayet Paraya Bhaktya Pathen Nama-Shatashtakam || 18 ||
Meaning: After worshipping a young girl (kanya puja) and meditating on Goddess Durga, one should worship the Goddess with the deepest faith and devotion and recite these 108 names.

तस्य सिद्धिर्भवेद् देवि सर्वैः सुरवरैरपि।
राजानो दासतां यान्ति राज्यश्रियमवाप्नुयात्॥19॥

Rajano Dasatam Yanti Rajya-Shriyam Avapnuyat || 19 ||
Meaning: O Devi! The person who recites this stotra with faith attains success. Even the great gods are pleased with him, and he may gain honour, prestige and prosperity like that of royal power.

गोरोचनालक्तककुङ्कुमेन सिन्दूरकर्पूरमधुत्रयेण।
विलिख्य यन्त्रं विधिना विधिज्ञो भवेत् सदा धारयते पुरारिः॥20॥
Gorochanalaktaka-Kunkumena Sindura-Karpura-Madhu-Trayena |
Vilikhya Yantram Vidhina Vidhijno Bhavet Sada Dharayate Purarih || 20 ||
Meaning: A person who writes the Goddess’s yantra according to the prescribed method, using gorochana, alaktaka (red lac dye), kumkum, sindoor, camphor, honey and other such substances, and wears it, gains special spiritual accomplishment (siddhi) and the Goddess’s grace. This should be done in the proper way by someone who knows the method.

भौमावास्यानिशामग्रे चन्द्रे शतभिषां गते।
विलिख्य प्रपठेत् स्तोत्रं स भवेत् सम्पदां पदम्॥21॥

Vilikhya Prapathet Stotram Sa Bhavet Sampadam Padam || 21 ||
Meaning: A person who writes out this stotra and recites it at night on an Amavasya (new moon) that falls on a Tuesday, when the Moon is in the Shatabhisha nakshatra, becomes prosperous and gains great wealth.
