Shri Devi Atharvashirsham
The Shri Devi Atharvashirsham, also called the Devi Atharvashirsha, is an important stotra in the worship of the Goddess. It is recited before the main chapters of the Durga Saptashati. In it, the Goddess is described as the very form of Brahman, as Prakriti, Mahamaya, Mahavidya, Mahalakshmi, Saraswati, and as the power of the entire universe. Describing her own all-pervading nature, the Goddess herself explains that it is she who exists in creation, knowledge, power, nature and all the divine powers. This text is a way of understanding the vastness and glory of the Goddess.

Chanting it before a new image of the Goddess is said to establish the Goddess’s presence in it. Chanting it at the time of prana-pratishtha (consecration) establishes the life-force in the image. Chanting it in the presence of Mahadevi at the special conjunction of a Tuesday and the Ashvini nakshatra is said to bring the fruit of crossing over mahamrityu, a great danger of death.
