Maa Kalratri
Maa Kalratri is the most fierce and transformative form of Maa Durga, who is also known as the "destroyer of darkness." Being the seventh form of Navdurga, she is worshiped on the seventh day of Navratri. Apart from Navratri, she is also worshipped during special Durga puja, Kali puja, and on Amavasya days to remove fear, negative energies, and obstacles from life.
Her name, "Kalratri," is a combination of two words - "kaal," which means time or death, and "ratri," which means night, symbolizing her power over death, illusions, and evil.
Iconography of Maa Kalratri
Maa Kalratri is shown in a dark and powerful form that represents the destruction of ignorance and evil forces. She is usually depicted riding a donkey, which represents humility and the ability to move through difficult situations without fear.
Moreover, Goddess Kalaratri is shown with four hands. In her left hand, she holds a curved sword, representing the power to destroy demons. Her right hand is in Abhaya Mudra and Varada Mudra, which bless devotees with protection and success. Also, she is breathing fire and has three bright eyes representing knowledge of the past, present, and future.
According to the depiction shown in the Mahabharata, she has a black body, bloody mouth, and blazing eyes, pretty much similar to Maa Kaali.
