Nitish Kumar is an Indian politician, and is currently the Chief Minister of Bihar. So loved by the people, he has been voted for the position on 5 occasions. He has served as a minister since November 2005. Kumar is a graduate in mechanical engineering from Bihar College of Engineering in 1972, which is now known as National Institute of Technology, Patna. He was first elected as a member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 1985.
He has also served as a minister in the Union Government of India, as the Minister for Railways, Minister for Surface Transport, and the Minister for Agriculture in 1998–99, working under Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. In 1989, he became the Secretary-General of the Janata Dal party, founded in 2003 in Bihar. Since then, Nitish has now become the party leader for The Janata Dal (United).

Wanting to help the women in the society, Kumar’s government initiated meal programs to encourage girls to attend school as well. In 2010, Kumar's party was elected back into power, and Kumar again was voted as Chief Minister. Following Tejashwi’s refusal to do so, Nitish Kumar broke the grand alliance in order to protect his clean image and zero tolerance towards corruption and resigned from the cabinet. He reverted to the principal alliance, NDA and was elected back as the Chief Minister within hours.
