Nitish Kumar - JDU President

Nitish Kumar is an Indian politician, and is currently the Chief Minister of Bihar. So loved by the people, he has been voted for the position on 5 occasions. He has served as a minister since November 2005. Kumar is a graduate in mechanical engineering from Bihar College of Engineering in 1972, which is now known as National Institute of Technology, Patna. He was first elected as a member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 1985.
He has also served as a minister in the Union Government of India, as the Minister for Railways, Minister for Surface Transport, and the Minister for Agriculture in 1998–99, working under Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. In 1989, he became the Secretary-General of the Janata Dal party, founded in 2003 in Bihar. Since then, Nitish has now become the party leader for The Janata Dal (United).
Nitish Kumar has always been determined to help the people towards a better life, Kumar has helped initiate a number of developmental activities that has influenced such growth and progress in Bihar.
Wanting to help the women in the society, Kumar’s government initiated meal programs to encourage girls to attend school as well. Girls who attended school were also given bicycles, to make their commute easier and as a way to encourage more students into taking admission! This initiative has helped reduce school dropout rates by quite a margin.
In 2010, Kumar's party was elected back into power, and Kumar again was voted as Chief Minister. His action plans have made such a difference that electorates witnessed such a high turnout of women and young voters, for the first time. The voting was also declared as the fairest election in Bihar, without any violence or fraud.
Kumar was elected the Chief Minister of Bihar yet again on 22 February 2015, on the backdrop of the upcoming 2015 Bihar Legislative Assembly election. Mahagathbandhan was formed between his party JD(U), along with RJD and Congress, against the BJP in Bihar but this Mahagathabandhan came to an end when deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav was charged with corruption, to which Kumar asked for his resignation.
Following Tejashwi’s refusal to do so, Nitish Kumar broke the grand alliance in order to protect his clean image and zero tolerance towards corruption and resigned from the cabinet. He reverted to the principal alliance, NDA and was elected back as the Chief Minister within hours. With the nearing 2019 elections Kumar has geared up and in full swing to mark his yet another win in his province along with his alliance, NDA.
