Mayawati - BSP President

Kumari Mayawati, is an Indian politician and the current National President of the Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP). A protégé of late politician, Kanshi Ram, founder of BSP, Mayawati has been elected as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh four times and has the distinction of being the first female Scheduled Caste Chief Minister in India.
In Spite of coming from a humble background, today Mayawati is the leader of the masses of oppressed Dalits(Once addressed as the Untouchables). For Mayawati, the word ‘ambitious’ can safely be used as her middle name. She comes from a family that did not think a daughter needed to be educated as the sons. But Mayawati took a stand back then and not only did B.Ed after her graduation, but also completed LL.B from Delhi University.
She has worked hard to get where she is now and is not one to admit defeat easily even when she was not re-elected as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. She gave herself credit of the fact that she completed her tenure as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh from 2007 to 2012,a feat accomplished by a Chief Minister in the history of UP elections, only after 1960.
‘Behanji’, as she is lovingly called by her followers, has been waiting cautiously to rule again in order to return to power in the most populous state of India. With the upcoming 2019 general elections, neglecting the hopes of the Congress Party to form an alliance with BSP, Mayawati choose to form a grand alliance with her rival party Samajwadi Party.
