Things escalated with the talks of several parties trying to merge as one forming a grand alliance to take on the current ruling party, the Bharatiya Janata Party. In order to tackle BJP in Uttar Pradesh province, the biggest rivals Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party formed an alliance. In West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, current Chief Minister of the state, founder and leader of Trinamool Congress arranged a huge rally inviting all other parties to form a grand alliance and contest against BJP. South was not much behind and K. ChandraSekhar Rao along with his party, Telangana Rasthra Samithi has put forth the same idea as that of Banerjee to form another grand alliance and contest against BJP.
