Pitru Paksha Mantra: Gayatri, Aavahan, Tarpan And Mahamrityunjaya

The Pitru Gayatri Mantra is traditionally chanted to remember and offer respect to one's ancestors. Two commonly recited versions are given below.

1. Pitru Gayatri Mantra

First Mantra

Om Pitriganaya Vidmahe
Jagat Dharini Dhimahi।
Tanno Pitru Prachodayat।।

Meaning:
We meditate upon the Pitru Ganas, the revered ancestors who are associated with the support and sustenance of creation. May they bless us with wisdom, guidance, and positive inspiration.

Second Mantra

Om Devatabhyo Vidmahe
Pitrubhyo Dhimahi। Tanno Pitarah Prachodayat।।

Meaning:
We meditate upon the divine forces and the revered ancestors. May the Pitrs guide us, inspire us, and bless us with wisdom and well-being.

2. Pitru Mantra

Om Pitrubhyo Namah।।

Meaning:
Salutations to the revered ancestors. This simple mantra is chanted as an expression of respect, श्रद्धा, and gratitude toward one's Pitrs.

3. Pitru Invocation Mantra

Om Agacchantu Me Pitara Imam Grihnantu Jalaanjalim।।

Meaning:
O my revered ancestors, please come and accept this offering of water made with श्रद्धा and devotion.

4. Rudra Gayatri Mantra

Om Tatpurushaya Vidmahe
Mahadevaya Dhimahi।
Tanno Rudrah Prachodayat।।

Meaning:
We meditate upon Lord Mahadeva, the divine form of Rudra. May Lord Rudra guide and inspire us with wisdom and divine awareness.

5. Pitru Tarpan Mantra

Om Pitrubhyah Swadha Namah।।

Meaning:
Salutations to the revered ancestors, along with the sacred offering of Swadha. This mantra is traditionally recited while offering Tarpan to the Pitrs.

6. Mahamrityunjaya Mantra

Om Tryambakam Yajamahe
Sugandhim Pushtivardhanam ।। Urvaarukamiva Bandhanaan
Mrityor Mukshiya Maamritat।।

Meaning:
We worship the three-eyed Lord Shiva, who nourishes and sustains all beings. May He liberate us from the bondage of death and lead us toward spiritual well-being and immortality.
