How to Do Kuber Puja at Home

People commonly perform Kuber pooja at home, especially near the locker, cash box, or the north corner of the house. The steps below explain how to do Kuber puja at home.

1. Preparation

Devotees wake early, bathe, and wear clean traditional clothes. Clean the puja area thoroughly, especially the north corner or the spot where the locker is kept.

Spread a clean cloth on a wooden platform. Place the Kuber idol, image, or Yantra in the center. Goddess Lakshmi is placed beside Lord Kubera on Dhanteras or Diwali.

The locker key, cash box, jewelry, coins, and account book are kept nearby.

2. Sankalp

Before beginning the puja, take a sankalp (sacred intention) to worship Lord Kubera with devotion and sincerity.

Mentally express your prayers for financial stability, prosperity, protection of your savings, and responsible use of wealth. Begin the puja with a calm mind and focus on your prayers.

3. Invocation and Dhyana

Lord Kubera is meditated upon as the guardian of treasures. The traditional dhyana mantra describes him as the lord of treasures, crowned, holding a varada mudra and a gada, and a friend of Lord Shiva.

Shri Kubera Dhyana Mantra

मनुज-बाह्य-विमान-स्थितम्,
गरुड-रत्न-निभं निधि-नायकम्।

शिव-सखं मुकुटादि-विभूषितम्,
वर-गदे दधतं भजे तुन्दिलम्॥

Meaning: I offer my prayers to Lord Kubera, who sits upon a celestial vehicle, is the lord of all treasures, is a friend of Lord Shiva, wears a crown and other ornaments, and holds a boon-giving gesture and a gada in his hands.

4. Avahana (Invocation)

After meditating on Lord Kubera, invite him to be present during the puja. Face the idol, image, Yantra, or locker being worshipped and perform the invocation gesture while reciting the following mantra.

Shri Kubera Avahana Mantra

आवाहयामि देव! त्वामिहायाहि कृपां कुरु।
कोशं वर्द्धय नित्यं त्वं परि-रक्ष सुरेश्वर॥

॥ श्रीकुबेर-देवम् आवाहयामि ॥

Meaning: O Lord Kubera, I invite you to be present here and seek your blessings. Please bless my treasury with continued growth and protect it always.

5. Pushpanjali Asana (Offering Flowers as a Seat)

After invoking Lord Kubera, take five flowers in your cupped hands and place them in front of the idol or near the locker. This offering symbolically provides a seat for the deity.

Shri Kubera Pushpanjali Asana Mantra

Meaning: O Lord of the Devas, please accept this golden, jewel-adorned seat offered with devotion. I offer five flowers as your seat.

6. Navopachara Pujan (Nine Offerings)

After offering flowers, worship Lord Kubera with nine traditional offerings. Each offering is made while reciting the corresponding mantra.

  3. Lord Dhanvantari puja is performed for health.

  4. Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Kubera puja is performed during the Dhanteras muhurat.

  5. Newly bought gold, silver, utensils, or currency is placed in the puja area before being stored.

  6. Sweets, fruits, and dry fruits are shared as prasad.
