All About Ramadan

Ramadan is the well known ninth holy month of the Islamic calendar. The term Ramadan means intense heat. Ramadan starts with the sighting of the crescent moon (HILAL) and lasts for a period of one month. When the hilal is visible again at the end of the month, it is the time to celebrate Eid-Ul-Fitr (break the fast). Muslims believe Ramadan to be an auspicious month for the revelations of God to humankind, being the month in which the first verse of the “Quran” was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad.

During this auspicious time of Ramadan, Muslims refrain from eating and drinking starting from dawn till dusk and seek for the forgiveness, mercy, and peace to Allah. This is also the time when they take measures to strengthen their will power and also perform charity work. Spiritual cleansing and self reformation is what everyone seeks to achieve. Prayers become a means to build a strong bond with God and good deeds are done to achieve enlightenment and peace.
