Angered that some stranger dared to stop him, the young boy, not knowing he was actually talking to his father, began a battle to the point where Lord Shiva cut off the child's head.

Without missing a beat, Lord Ganesha gathered the sweets, stuffed them back into his belly, and tied it shut using the snake as a belt.

Amused by Lord Ganesha's antics, Lord Chandra, the deity of the moon who was observing the scene above Earth's atmosphere from the sky, couldn't help but mock and laugh openly at Lord Ganesha. Unable to tolerate such disrespect towards him, Lord Ganesha severed one of his own tusks and launched it directly in Lord Chandra's direction. Following the humiliation, he cursed him to become weak and regain his power in cycles forevermore.

Moreover, the curse stated that whoever gazed upon the moon during the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi days would face false accusations. Regretting what happened, Lord Chandra pleaded for mercy; hence, Lord Ganesha revoked the other portion of his curse but kept the lunar cycle condition as it was.
