Mythological Significance of Prayagraj

It is believed that the word Prayag originated from the combination of two words — "Pra" and "Yag", referring to the first yajna performed by Lord Brahma at this sacred place.

This holy city is believed to be protected by Lord Vishnu, who resides here in the form of Madhav. There are twelve forms of Lord Vishnu present here, which are known as Dwadash Madhav.
