Lord Ganesha - How to perform Ganesha Puja?


Undoubtedly, Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the most eagerly awaited auspicious festivals celebrated by the Hindus. Ganesh Chaturthi is a propitious 10-days festival that marks the birth of the divine Lord Ganesha. This festival is celebrated with great fanfare and enthusiasm.

Lord Ganesha is invoked before the commence of anything significant, and for this reason, he is called the Lord of Beginnings. He is considered as the supreme deity among Gods, and all rituals begin with Ganesha’s worship. He is also known as Vighnaharta, or remover of obstacles. It is believed that once Lord Shiva wasn’t able to defeat the demon Tripurasura because he had not prayed to Lord Ganesha before embarking on his mission to kill Tripurasura. He realised this and prayed to Ganesha and went on to fight Tripurasura. The Puranas state that by worshipping Ganesha, one can reduce the malefic effects of Saturn and other Graha Doshas. Praying to Lord Ganesha on Wednesdays brings success, happiness, prosperity and also removes the obstacles in one’s path.

How to Perform Ganesha Puja?

In the morning, take a bath and clean Ganesha Yantra with salt or lemon, and then place the Yantra facing the East or the North in a clean space. Light a diya, candle, or an incense stick in front of the yantra. You can also offer fruits, flowers, roli, camphor, and modak and perform Lord Ganesha’s aarti. In the end, chant Om Gan Ganpathaye Namah 108 times.

Here are some easy Ganesha mantras that you can chant to get Lord Ganesha’s blessings and for success and fulfillment of wishes:

Trayimayayakhilbuddhidatre Buddhipradeepaya Suradheepaya.

Nityaya Satyaya Cha Nityabuddhi Nityam Nireehaya Namostu Nityam.

It means that Lord Ganesha blesses one with all kinds of knowledge and wisdom, he is the one who ignites one’s mind to achieve great things and he is the supreme deity among Gods. Lord Ganesha, you are the truth I know and I extend my prayers to you.

Om Ganesh Rinnam Chhindhi Varenyam Hoong Namaah Phutt

This mantra is known as the Rinn Harta mantra. ‘Rinn’ means debt and ‘Harta’ means remover. This mantra of Lord Ganesha blesses one with wealth and prosperity in life and through this, you request Lord Ganesha to keep debt and poverty at bay.

In this mantra, Lord Ganesha is remembered by all his 12 names. It is considered auspicious to chant this mantra 11 times at the end of the puja.

The following remedies are helpful in removing problems on the domestic front and ensuring peace and harmony:

Offer ghee and jaggery to Lord Ganesha on Wednesdays. After some time, give that offering to a cow. This proves beneficial for money-related issues.

Placing a Ganesha idol as per Vastu principles on Wednesday in your puja room at home helps reduce tensions and conflicts. Worship this idol daily.

Placing a Ganesha idol at the entrance of your house ensures a harmonious environment and helps keep negative energies away.
