Aparajita Stotram Lyrics in Sanskrit With Meaning
Aparajita Stotram is a sacred hymn in praise of Goddess Aparajita, the undefeated form of Goddess Durga. The name Aparajita means "one who can never be defeated." The hymn honors the Goddess as the supreme power that protects the world and removes fear.
The hymn comes from the Devi Mahatmyam, found in the fifth chapter of the Markandeya Purana. It is sung by the gods after the demons Shumbha and Nishumbha oppress them and take away their rightful place. Seeking help, the gods turn to Goddess Durga and bow to her in these verses.
In the verses, the Goddess is called Vishnumaya, the divine creative power. She is not described as distant from life. She is the energy present in every living being, appearing as consciousness, wisdom, hunger, memory, compassion, and peace. Each verse bows to this presence within all creation.
Goddess Aparajita holds a special place on Vijayadashami, the day that celebrates the victory of good over evil. According to tradition, kings and warriors worshipped the Goddess on this day before setting out on a journey or in a battle. The occasion is also linked with the victory of Lord Rama over Ravana.
The hymn has 28 verses and takes only a few minutes to recite. Devotees commonly chant it during Navratri and on Vijayadashami. Tuesdays and Fridays are also popular days for Goddess worship, and many choose them for the recitation. The Trailokya Vijaya Aparajita Stotram is a separate and much longer text.
