The Story of the Queen and Her Seven Brothers

Long ago, a queen was the only sister among seven loving brothers. After her marriage to a king, she returned to her parents' home to observe her first Karva Chauth.

Following tradition, she observed a strict fast without food or water and waited patiently for the moonrise so she could complete the ritual.

As the day progressed, she became weak from hunger and thirst. Unable to bear their sister's suffering, her brothers decided to help her.

They created the illusion of the moon by placing a mirror behind a Peepal tree (in some versions, they used a lamp or torch) so that it appeared as though the moon had risen.

Believing the moon had truly appeared, the queen performed the customary rituals, offered water to the "moon," and broke her fast.

At that very moment, her husband's health suddenly began to deteriorate.

When the queen learned of his condition, she immediately left for her husband's kingdom.

The Blessing of Goddess Parvati

During her journey, the queen encountered Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

Goddess Parvati revealed that the misfortune had occurred because the queen had unknowingly broken her Karva Chauth Vrat before the actual moonrise. Although she had acted without ill intent, the sacred observance had remained incomplete.

Filled with remorse, the queen prayed to Goddess Parvati and sought forgiveness for the mistake caused by her brothers.

Moved by her sincerity and devotion, Goddess Parvati told her that her husband could regain his life and health if she observed the Karva Chauth Vrat once again with complete faith and according to the proper rituals.

Following the Goddess's instructions, the queen observed the fast with unwavering devotion.

Pleased with her dedication, Goddess Parvati blessed her, and her husband was restored to life and good health.

Several other legends are also connected with Karva Chauth, including the famous stories of Queen Veeravati and Karva, whose devotion protected her husband from death.
