But wait, before deciding your preference for Vedic or Western astrology, you need to know what astrology is. It is the practice that aims at solving your problems and prepares you for the uncertain future by predicting the events that lie ahead of you.

Astrology is a discipline that aims at helping the suffering humanity by guiding them into the right direction and preparing them for the uncertain future. But there are many different paths that can be taken to reach these goals.

One of the ways to eliminate the problems faced by people is the traditional path of Vedic astrology and another one is to take the path of the recently born Western astrology. There are many different approaches that are used by these two types of astrology but their aim is common: to minimize the problems of mankind and increase their happiness manifold.

What is the basic difference between Vedic astrology and Western astrology?

Vedic astrology predictions and Western astrology predictions are way different from each other. There are many differentiating points that highlight the major differences between these astrologies:

It has been an established fact that Vedic astrology originated way before Western astrology. It finds mention in the scriptural texts of Vedas and was developed by the ancient sages many thousand years ago. And western astrology can be traced back to the 4th century when the Babylonians discovered it and later passed this knowledge to the Greeks. Also, it has achieved a touch of the Greek, Roman and Egyptian civilizations and cannot be said to belong to a single culture.

Vedic astrology 2020 is based upon a system of fixed zodiacs that are known as Nakshatra and all the calculations are based on this system. This system is also known as the “sidereal” system. On the other hand, Western astrology considers zodiacs to be moveable and this system is known as the ‘“tropical” system of zodiacs.

The planets taken into consideration as per the Vedic astrology are nine in number - Sun, Moon, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Venus and Rahu and Ketu that are said to be the shadow planets. Also, Vedic astrology takes into account the 27 lunar constellations that are popularly known as Nakshatras.
But as per Western astrology, we have Uranus, Neptune and Pluto in addition to the other planets of the solar system and the future is predicted on the basis of these planets.

The transit system
While Vedic astrology uses the Vimshottari Dasha system to time the movements of the planets and calculate the planetary transits; Western astrology studies the planetary movements to calculate the transits of various planets.

Focus on the Sun and the Moon
Western astrology takes up the system of sun signs and focuses on the personality, behavior and traits of an individual. On the other hand, Vedic astrology deals with the emotional aspects of a person and is completely based upon the Moon.

Is Vedic astrology better than Western astrology?

Vedic astrology seems to be a bit complicated as compared to Western astrology as it uses various dasha patterns, constellations and planetary movements to have a proper insight into the future of the person.

While Western astrology focuses on the surface level, Vedic astrology delves deeper into the very consciousness of the universe and tries to interpret the crucial aspects of the planetary motions to analyze the birth chart of a person and provide them with sound advice and effective solutions.

Also, Vedic astrology is based upon the lunar system while Western astrology is based on the solar system. Now the sun changes its sign in one month and the moon changes it in about 2-3 days. This makes Vedic astrology more precise and detailed as it scrutinizes the positions of the planets and gives out predictions that are more accurate.

Since the moon relates to our emotions and temperament, Vedic astrology is extremely logical and reason oriented and therefore, much more reliable as compared to Western astrology. But you can also explore the various aspects of Western astrology if you prefer to do that. Take the call and choose the one that will work the best for you.
