Rahu and Ketu are known as shadow planets that have no independent identity. They don’t have any physical shape and are the imaginary points in sky. Due to their shadowy nature, they tend to act on an emotional level and take the traits of the sign in which they are posited. Only in rare instances, they prove to be favourable. If they are in dasha or mahadasha in a horoscope, the native may suffer due to their malefic effects.
According to Hindu mythology, there is a story about how they came into existence. The Gods and demons had once mutually agreed to produce nectar which could give them immortality. Nectar could be obtained by churning the ocean. When it was obtained and was being given to the Gods, a demon disguised as a God came and sat between the Sun and the Moon to take the nectar. But the Sun and Moon recognized the demon and complained about it to Lord Vishnu. Listening to this, Lord Vishnu used his Sudarshan Chakra at the demon and cut him into two pieces. But since the demon had consumed sufficient amount of nectar which could make him immortal, he couldn’t be killed. The head of the demon was called Rahu and the lower half was called Ketu and since then, they have been the enemies of the Sun and Moon.
Both Rahu and Ketu always move in retrograde motion. Rahu represents indulgence. Mental illnesses, theft, losses, death of family members, legal hassles etc are some of its negative aspects. It also represents diseases such as leprosy, skin diseases, breathing problems, ulcers etc. Rahu is also behind the instant success or failure of a person. If Rahu is well placed, it can bestow the native with courage and fame.
Ketu can cause diseases related to lungs, ear problems, brain disorders, problems in the intestine etc. It represents mystic activities, wounds, sufferings, bad company, false pride etc. Ketu also stands for moksha, sudden gains, interest in philosophical pursuits, spiritual pursuits etc. There are a few remedies which as per astroYogi astrologers can be followed to reduce the ill effects of Rahu and Ketu:
