Why this ‘Kolaveri Di`

Why this ‘Kolaveri Di`

The Kolaveri Di song is a huge hit and the nation is going crazy looking

it up on the internet. The singer and lyricist have received many praises, and Bollywood has gone crazy tweeting their love for this song. Many people do not even know the
meaning of ‘Kolaveri Di’ but that’s not stopping them from dancing to its tune as the song sounds so melodious.

The lyricist, Anirudh Ravichander is an 18-year-old from Chennai. His mother Laxmi is a dancer. He is a cool guy who tends to follow his own instincts and has his own lyrical lingo; he plays the piano and has been trained in London. Anirudh says, “Life has changed drastically. Overnight I am recognised, thousands of emails pour in and the ordinary man on the street even in Mumbai comes up and talks to me.”

In English, why this Kolaveri Di means ‘Why did you do this to me’? ‘Kolaveri Di’ literally means ‘Murderous rage’ or ‘Killer rage’. Its tune gives it a pretty rough touch and there are times when it feels like the singer is drunk. The combination of Tamil and English sounds perfect for the song.

The name of the Kolaveri Di singer is ‘Dhanush’ ‘Venkatesh Prabhu Kasthuri Raja’. He has worked in many Tamil movies like Kadhal Kondein and Pudhupettai. Dhanush is the son of great Tamil film director, producer and music director Kasturi Raja.

He was born on 28 July 1983 in Chennai. He finished his higher education from St. John’s Matriculation Higher Secondary school Alwarthirunagar and entered acting. Dhanush was married to actor Rajnikant’s daughter Aishwarya. His elder brother is also a successful Tamil film director, Selvaraghavan.

Sony released the Kolaveri Di song last month and within a few days it became the most searched song on Youtube and Facebook. This song belongs to the film 3. It is directed by superstar Rajnikanth’s daughter Aishwarya. This film is produced by Dhanush’s father Kasturi Raja and also stars Shruti Hassan as the lead actress.

Amitabh Bachchan went gaga over the mind blowing music and wrote on his blog, “Why this kolaveri kolaveri kolaveri Di... Ahh… just not leaving the lips and the mind and the system… such an endearing experience. Brings a smile and laughter and rhythm instantly to the face… get to Youtube type Dhanush or Kolaveri Di… it’s his latest song that has become a rage all over.” Javed Akhtar, however, begs to differ and wrote on his twitter account that '"KOLAVARI-D... Everyone is praising the robes but the emperor is naked. Tune ordinary, singing substandard”.

The song is a big hit but what about the movie; will it be a great hit too? The answer is ‘Yes’.

Dhanush, the male lead of 3 is a Leo and the stars favour him on all his ventures. 2012 will prove to be a significant year with many more milestones for him. His pairing with Shruti Hassan will be appreciated by all and fans will be eager to watch this movie.
