Anybody and everybody can ‘play’ with a tarot deck; read materials related to it on the Internet, take down books from the dusty shelves and browse through them; or attend as many classes as they want. But, if they cannot focus on the energy that the universe is sending their way when they pick a tarot card or if they are unable to open those pores of intuition while gazing at the cards; trying to find the answers from the tarot cards would simply be a waste of effort and their time.

Connecting with the cards can be safely placed under the group with the heading, “Artistic abilities of a person” - either you have it or you don’t.
Having said this and maybe ruffling a few feathers in the process, I must confess that before I picked up my first deck of cards, I was cautioned about how overwhelming the meaning of the cards could be to a beginner. The very thought of learning the meanings of 78 cards was daunting enough; not to mention the fact that one needs to know the meanings of the cards both, in the upright and in the reversed positions.
But when I did buy my first deck, I had an instant connect with it and apart from a few cards that do cause some confusion in some readings even after years of using them, the cards simply seemed to speak to me. The archetypal images on the cards spell out the situation clearly and leave me satisfied after a reading.
And so, today, I need to share a few of the most common questions that I am asked from a beginner, just so those who are interested in the mysticism need not hesitate to follow their dream of reading and taking guidance from the tarot about the future.
1) From where does one get the Tarot cards?
Tarot is such a sought after subject today that it is very easy to find a whole section in good book stores dedicated to it. You can also easily order these decks online, along with their help books. Some sites even sell second hand decks and it is perfectly all right to use a ‘used deck’ after ‘cleansing’ it of the old energies.
2) Do I need someone to explain how to read what the cards have to say?
Before you even consider this question, do spend some time developing a relationship with the cards. The more you handle them, the more you will relate to them and the easier it will be for you to read them. After all, its all about receptivity.
One of the best things about the tarot is that there is no ‘correct’ meaning for a card. The reader reads the card depending on the question. The same card can answer a love related question, a career question or a health question. Yes, there is a traditional meaning of each card, but that is simply to help you lead the way. This is where the intuition comes in.
Having said that, life may be easier if you have a mentor who will teach you what signs to look for in the cards.
3) Will I invite dark entities when I do readings?
Although there are many ways of cutting out the negative energies that you may invite because of the readings, I’ve learnt to simply be positive. Negative energies only go where they are ‘invited’. Ignore them. If you do feel a little queer after a reading, simply pray to the God you believe in and you will be back on track again.
So, those interested in learning tarot, grab a deck you resonate with and enjoy getting those wonderful vibes from it. The universe will reach out to you through these cards.
